FRWD is a unique digital marketing consultancy with deep hands-on execution skills and experience. FRWD is designed to build client capability through a comprehensive approach to helping companies make the best marketing investments. To do so, FRWD extends client teams through co-location of top creative, media optimization, data science, and advertising technology teams to shorten test cycle time and leverage learnings to move forward.  FRWD also acquires and trains talent for clients to create sustainable campaigns and drive continual improvement without further FRWD presence.  FRWD was founded in Minneapolis and has grown a very successful hub in in Bain’s London office and is now launching a hub in Munich to serve clients in DACH and across Europe.

With the combined skills of Bain and FWRD, we are able to bridge the gap between brand, marketing, strategy and execution, trialing strategies in immediate real-life tests, while having the operating model and organizational design experience to scale the results throughout the organization.




FRWD@Bain is looking for a senior marketing professional with a track record of applying technology to generate invaluable real-time consumer learning and continuous improvement in marketing investment outcomes. The Director is responsible for leading the overall strategy and execution of one or more client engagements. Our Directors provide direct consultancy to our senior clients and help them crack the toughest problems. Directors, with their team, deliver transformational marketing solutions for the most demanding clients. This individual works cross-functionally, leading a team of (digital) marketing specialists to identify marketing-driven growth opportunities for the client and developing a clear strategy on how to deliver those results.

FRWD@Bain work is based on deep and rigorous analysis and presenting actionable recommendations based on data and facts, not marketing and technology trends. We work collaboratively with the clients and their partners to conduct assessments of client capabilities and performance, playing a significant role in team problem solving through the findings and insights from diagnostics and assessments. This person architects and delivers marketing technology and data strategies that accelerate customer acquisition and customer value by increasing customer engagement and personalization.

We are looking for someone who is excited to share their knowledge with the broader Bain and client teams, and connect the client’s marketing efforts to broader business outcomes. The person must want to help build and foster a healthy and innovative work environment, with a strong team focus and an ability to inject fun and humor even at the busiest times. 



  • Lead a team of specialists to drive analysis and recommendations that guide marketing technology recommendations that deliver cost savings or drive higher ROI
  • Consult client marketing teams up to CMO, CDO, CTO, CFO and CEO, draw a clear picture of the situation and opportunity and present a true north analysis and recommendation while keeping the political complexity of large organizations in mind
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-functional team with other Bain consultants and clients, often on-site with the client, to develop an acceleration strategy and agile “small moves” tests to improve marketing ROI
  • Drive the strategy and solution development for specific components of the tech stack, and guide clients on technology solution choices, selection criteria and vendor trade-offs.
  • Inspiration around how data can be applied to drive more frequent daily/weekly/monthly actions by marketing teams for better results – teach, mentor, enable
  • Be a thought leader by staying externally connected with technology partners and best practices, and inspiring the FRWD and broader Bain and client teams in various forums – written POV’s, larger training/teaching events, informal coaching and mentoring
  • Collaborate with client internal teams, the client’s agencies and partners to identify growth opportunities in marketing and media
  • Build trust with clients, Bain partners and teams as the thought-leading marketing expert that solves tough business problems
  • Communicate insights and opportunities in simple and clear comms that are appropriately tailored to their audience, both in written and oral presentations
  • Lead business development and pitch processes, including responding to RFPs, agreeing scope and representing FRWD@Bain in client conversations

Your profile

  • 10+ years’ experience in digital media and marketing with a recent specialism in marketing technology including architecting and delivering marketing technology, data, and analytics solutions to clients at scale
  • Experience working with digital media channels (inc. Search, Social, Programmatic) both in strategic discussions about the role of the channel as well as hands-on experience on how to optimize campaign results
  • Confident in leading media strategy discussions, the function of the different media channels, and how to evaluate media ROI and drive business results using data and technology
  • Ability to think quickly and critically on a broad range of marketing technology and digital marketing topics across various verticals
  • Data-driven thinker and problem solver, comfortable working with business, IT, and marketing stakeholders
  • Communication, especially in packaging content into effective client presentations and being the person leading the room in meetings, articulating clear action items and providing direction
  • A proven track-record developing and contributing to successful, innovative and impactful marketing efforts is essential. Communications strategy, goals and testing roadmaps across projects, packaged and structured to deliver clear outcomes against client business priorities
  • Thought leadership around the marketing technology and ad-tech landscape and players
  • Hands on experience with leading marketing cloud platforms and leading point solutions skewing towards data activation and campaign activation
  • Programmatic buy-side platform knowledge, including a combination of; CDP, DSP, Analytics, Tag Management, Ad Fraud, Viewability, Brand Safety, Data sources, Attribution, Ad serving, Retargeting
  • Experience that includes managing 1st and 3rd party data and use of customer data platforms, DMP’s, A/B testing, cross channel campaign management, and decisioning engines
  • Experience leading evaluations and vendor selection, including writing business requirements
  • General understanding of ad-tech, including integration with DSP’s and bidding engines
  • Experience with marketing measurement tools focused on attribution and performance management
  • Working in agile, shorter sprints instead of long planning cycles
  • Experience leading RFP responses and participating in pitches
  • Experience working across multiple countries and steering media teams across markets
  • Building and structuring teams, processes, ways of working
  • Experience in test design, constant testing programs, measuring business impact
  • Experience in Agile ways of working
  • European language skills preferred
  • Willingness to travel
