The FRWD@Bain team combines traditionally separate capabilities including data analysis, systems integration, media, and creative into a team of subject matter experts that works side-by-side with consulting case teams and internal client teams. Accelerated by real-time testing, this unique approach to collaboration propels brand recognition, sales growth and team development, all at the speed of consumer demand. We address our clients’ toughest marketing challenges.



You'll help deliver value to Bain clients by ensuring the optimal staffing of projects, while managing the required tradeoffs between business need and professional development needs of the FRWD team.


Working closely with FRWD and Bain partners and FRWD HR Partner, you'll manage FRWD’s Americas staffing, focusing on allocating the right individuals to the right projects to meet business needs while optimizing individuals’ professional development. 


The FRWD@Bain Chief of Staff can be based in either Minneapolis or Chicago. If based in Chicago, please note that travel to Minneapolis is required. 


Staffing Allocations (50%)

  • Maintain tracking of pipeline by attending weekly client development meetings and daily interaction with partners, directors and client development
  • Staff case teams in timely and appropriate manner, by working directly with Bain and FRWD partners and FRWD operations to build alignment, taking into account
    • Needs of case in terms of seniority and skills
    • Cost-to-revenue implications
    • Client prioritization for office and region
    • Individuals’ PD and other staffing needs
  • Recommend PD and staffing mix investments
  • Track team members with performance issues and identify appropriate staffing
  • Meet with team member direct managers to understand professional development goals
  • Maintain all databases (BOSS, CD materials, investment tracker etc.)


Capacity Management (20%)

  • Coordinate and report capacity within Americas offices and Bain Expert Talent:
  • Approve FRWD team PTO 
  • Coordinate with HR manager and FRWD operations to ensure that new team members are added to the staffing pool
  • Liaises with global stakeholders, for cross-region pipeline/staffing and best practice implications
  • Communicates with case leadership to address on-case delivery success, and to limit up-front and ongoing surprises (performance, vacations/PTO, etc.)


Case Team Experience (15%)

  • Support case teams by sharing FRWD ways of working documents
  • Report CTSU and CLSU results with FRWD LT and director team monthly
  • Track and support case teams that have lower scores
  • Support team professional development by initiating case close feedback
  • Share B.E.S.T materials with FRWD team to ensure we are leveraging best practice materials
  • Partner with HR to support processes for employee lifecycle, including new hire acclimation, reviews/promotion/performance management, etc.


Projects and Reporting (15%)

  • Continuously improve Americas staffing processes and support global staffing initiatives as required, in collaboration with wider Bain Expert Client Delivery and talent teammates
  • Lead or support office projects as required, e.g. working with Finance Director to improve visibility on cost/revenue for active cases
  • Track case investments for monthly reporting
  • Track pipeline and report during weekly client development meetings
  • Report financials and capacity weekly to FRWD operations


  • Bachelor's degree with strong academic achievement required; Master's degree / MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of people management experience
  • Track record of excellence leading/coaching others, especially in the context of top professional service settings
  • Proven track record of success managing complex stakeholder relationships and dynamic teams in a high growth environment
  • Prior experience in staffing/program management or similar role in consultancy firm preferred
  • Consulting experience strongly preferred, ideally Senior Manager with strong performance
  • Unique levels of professionalism (presentable, discrete, diplomatic) and approachability, able to deal with highly confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to own activities to completion, while balancing focus across many competing priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; skilled at communicating with senior executives and stakeholders (customers like partners and managers and client-facing staff) to create buy-in in an open, honest, and direct manner
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to interface across many areas and levels of Bain
  • Skilled at building and maintaining a team spirit and morale
  • Ability to manage a team of multiple stakeholders including expert practitioners, ability to effectively collaborate globally across regions
  • Comfort in juggling a broad set of priorities; strong project management skills
  • Solid organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong alignment with Bain Operating Principles
  • Experience as a marketing practitioner, running campaigns/business outcomes in digital channels
