WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH:

Bain's Next-Generation Software Solutions (NGSS) team has been set up to help Industry and Capability Practices digitize their Intellectual Property through a diversified suite of digital tools, technologies, services, and support capabilities The team supports practices, case teams, and clients through various product delivery models including best-in-class partnerships with leading SaaS vendors, new product development using industry-leading low code and business engineering platforms, and developing highly complex full-stack custom software.

In addition to core product development, the team fills critical gaps through a growing technical services catalog including technical architecture assessments, full-stack code reviews, architecture consulting, business automation and workflows, data and system integration, data visualization, and infrastructure hosting and support.

Underlying these products and services is Next Gen’s Customer Success Program, ensuring the tools are setup and configured according to the case team and client’s needs, end-users are on-boarded and trained properly, and a global support structure is in-place to quickly answer any questions or address issues.

The results of these efforts are a greater ability to sell cases effectively, serve clients efficiently, and drive capability transfer. In short, it is about better results that enhance our clients' and our own competitiveness.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

 

At the intersection of business and technology, the rapidly growing Next Gen team is seeking a Low Code Engineer Team Lead to join our team.

 

Working under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Engineering and Innovation, and alongside the team’s Product Managers, Project Managers, Software Architects, Technical Analysts, Business Engineers, and Tools Specialists, this dynamic hands-on position will play a leading role in the ideation, validation, design, creation, and support of Next Gen tools and products.

 

These reusable products and services will be built using a diverse set of innovative tools and technologies including, but certainly not limited to, areas such as data ingestion and transformation, analytics, visualization, low code web and mobile engineering, system integration, business automation, and more.

 

In addition to core engineering, this role will also play a critical role in leading and participating in hands-on discovery, research, development, and proof-of-concepts using new tools and services to enable continuous innovation and improvement.

 

The role is based in Chicago, local candidates or those willing to relocate only.

 

Design:

  • Understand, document, and guide teams in long-term product vision and planning, including advising of trade-offs between Next Gen’s core delivery models
  • Define and document core system non-functional requirements including security, scalability, maintainability, extensibility, and deployment
  • Lead in estimation, planning, and costing of new projects and initiatives across multiple metrics

Leadership:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on low code engineering within Next Gen and more broadly at Bain, including advising on strong use cases, considerations, limitations, integration capabilities, and how low code could fit a business’ short-term requirements as well as be extended for their long-term roadmap
  • Establish best practices and standards to support scaling low code tools and technologies 
  • Own and manage relationships with key strategic vendor and technology partners

Engineering:

  • Hands-on development and leading the development of new tools and services through a variety of low code engineering platforms including data ingestion, web application development, analytics, visualizations, automation, and integration
  • Build and maintain a library of high-quality reusable low code widgets and modules, ranging from UI elements, mid-tier business logic workflows, and backend connectors and integrations 
  • Implement best practices and capabilities for ensuring the overall quality and scalability of low code products including automated testing frameworks, monitoring, and performance testing

Innovation:

  • Drive innovation through out-of-the-box thinking to solve critical business challenges and demands
  • Keep up-to-date with industry tools, technologies, platforms, and services that may add value
  • Conduct market research and hands-on proof of concepts of new tools and technologies 
  • Deliver results to senior members of the team through live demos and presentations

 Support:

  • Support the rollout and implementation of software to clients, provide end-user support as needed
  • Lead in time and cost estimates of system enhancements, advise on trade-offs of features and options

ABOUT YOU:

  • Experience with software or product delivery in an Agile cross-functional team environment
  • Experience as a full-stack software developer 
  • Experience with common software development technologies and platforms: HTML/CSS, JavaScript (ReactJS/AngularJS), NET Core, C#/Java, relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • A desire to learn and work with low code platforms, Mendix in particular
  • Willingness and desire to be hands-on and code alongside the development teams  
  • Flexibility to change direction, iterate, and adopt new technologies to solution requirements 
  • Ability to travel as needed, including internationally, up to 25% of the time
