    Department Overview

    Bain's Next-Generation Software Solutions (NGSS) team’s mission is to develop and support digital solutions for Bain consultants and clients, so they get to better, faster insights and results.


    Position Summary

    The team is seeking a strong Senior Project manager to reinforce the team in a permanent capacity. The role will largely focus on driving the development of software solutions from initial ideas through to launch and scaling. Additionally the role may manage more junior

    Project Managers, and coach them on delivery of their own projects.


    The role is based in London; local candidates or those willing to relocate only.




    Requirements Management

    High proficiency in a variety of techniques and tools to define the problem space and requirements for a solution, including:

    • Leading and facilitation of product innovation and ideation workshops, using user-centric design methodologies (e.g., personas, customer journeys), customer and end-user research, lo-fi wire-framing, divergent & convergent thinking approaches
    • Guide senior business stakeholders and management to define epics, features, and author user stories for hand-off to architecture and development teams
    • Lead the day-to-day team in traditional Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint showcases, retrospectives)
    • Work with product owner and business stakeholders to prioritize product back-log using various techniques (e.g., MoSCoW)
    • Work with solution architects and other stakeholders to define and maintain appropriate non-functional software requirements, ensure compliance over time
    • Use common Agile software tools to manage project and requirements (e.g., Trello, Jira)


    Product lifecycle management

    Being flexible to play several roles throughout the solution lifecycle as required:

    • Help product owners assess concept viability through build/buy/partner analysis and, when needed, develop business cases to support funding requests
    • Good project management skills –act as project manager on larger projects
    • Be comfortable working on a range of project types and sizes, from rapid Proof of Concept creation up to large-scale product development initiatives




    • Supervise other project managers on the team both with their projects and professional development
    • Act as the leader In the Portfolio, Product and Project team, help to up-skill the team and be a thought leader to wider Bain
    • Good problem-solving abilities around product software challenges, e.g. making the right trade-offs between features, quality and time-to-market
    • Extensive experience of working in an Agile development environment, good grasp of engineering processes and the full software development lifecycle
    • High technical literacy and awareness of technology trends, choices and risks.
    • Experience in applying project management, ITIL and Agile methodologies, DevOps technologies and techniques



    BA / MSc or equivalent undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials
    • Minimum 5-7 years successful track record in B2B software project or product management
    • Strong abilities in problem definition and problem solving
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work well with diverse stakeholders at all levels
    • Experience in managing and developing more junior team members
    • Facility to discuss technical issues with a non-technical audience
    • Comfort working independently in a fast-paced environment
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to interface across many areas and levels of Bain and Practice organizations
    • Passion for digital and innovation, results focused
    • Ability to rapidly absorb and interpret technical information
    • Ability to manage a team of multiple (senior) stakeholders including expert practitioners
    • Experience in managing software development vendors or software providers


    • Formal business analysis and/or Agile SCRUM certification
    • Formal technical requirements modelling techniques such UML and BPMN
    • Experience of writing solution test strategies and assuring test scripts & activities of QA teams
    • Experience with low-code platforms
    • Consulting industry experience
