    Position Summary

     

    Bain is currently looking to take its commercial operations capabilities to the next level, with the ambition of raising partner productivity and transforming how Bain creates and captures demand for its products and sells impactful, scale engagements at its most important clients. The Commercial Applications Product Senior Manager is fundamental to meeting this ambition by helping Bain stay ahead of the curve in deploying best-of-breed technology and analytic capabilities. This is an opportunity to be a key and founding leader in Bain’s Global Commercial Operations team and play a critical role in transforming Bain’s commercial model.

     

    The Commercial Applications Product Senior Manager will ensure there is a robust commercial application ecosystem and data infrastructure that effectively supports account teams across the globe as well as leadership across Bain’s industry practices and regions. .

     

    This role will report to the Commercial Operations Senior Director and will work closely with the Commercial Operations Manager. While the team is being stood up you will work closely with Global Industry Practices Leader.

    Responsibilities & Duties

     

    The Commercial Applications Product Senior Manager is responsible for identifying the business requirements and systems/data architecture to enable more efficient and effective outcomes for front line partners, account teams, commercial management and the commercial operations back office. This role will translate business needs into commercial data, technology and analytics requirements and will work closely with Bain’s industry practice areas, regions, key functions (e.g., Finance and Human Resources) and the Technology Services Group (TSG). The role will initially focus on defining the business requirements for commercial data infrastructure and implementing prioritized applications, systems and analytics. In the longer term, this role will focus on providing the applications and data to enable the commercial operations team to deliver more advanced capabilities (e.g., machine learning on unstructured data sets to optimize go-to-market strategies and priorities.)

     

    Owning the commercial data, applications and tools strategy and architecture: Identify key use cases for commercial data, analytics and applications, and maintain and prioritize the roadmap for building the corresponding data, application & system architecture and infrastructure needed to deliver these. This includes:

    • Inventory potential tools, data, applications and systems to enable more efficient and effective commercial outcomes
    • Work with the broader Commercial Operations team and firm leadership to identify use cases to be enabled by commercial applications, data and systems, based on gaps and improvement opportunities in existing commercial processes
    • Identify use cases for advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities, and identify enabling tools and data infrastructure
    • Define specific business requirements for commercial data, systems and applications
    • Maintain and prioritize a long-term technology roadmap

    Improving and integrating core commercial data, applications & tools: Liaise with technology function to build, enhance, integrate and automate our core commercial data assets and tools. This includes:

    • Liaise with the technology function to build, enhance and automate our commercial data assets and tools (e.g. Digital Account Plans)
    • Understand the use cases for data and tool integration, and collaborate with the technology team to develop an integrated set of commercial tools (including pipeline)
    • Develop a recommendation on the best option for a CRM upgrade
    • Keeping current on the fast-evolving ecosystem of commercial operations tools and applications; networking in the space and also collaborating with BIE to ensure Bain is just behind the leading edge

    Managing core commercial data, applications & tools: Product owner for the core commercial systems and data. This includes:

    • Managing commercial data infrastructure & applications, ensuring account teams have adequate support and that they are maintained and updated as needed
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with external vendors
    • Identifying opportunities to deliver further commercial insights to practices through embedding ongoing capability improvements and advanced capabilities into the applications and tools
    • Working with the Commercial Operations Senior Director to ensure these commercial insights can be operationalized and delivered to the business

    Objectives for the first 12 months

    • Develop a longer term strategy for Bain’s commercial data and technology capability that will enable world-class commercial outcomes, including:
      • Develop recommendation on the best ecosystem of commercial applications (including CRM and pipeline) to put in place to ensure long-term success and present to the Commercial Operations Senior Director and Global Operating Committee
      • Support the creation of a data strategy and application integration roadmap
    • Install applications and tools to best support the development and ongoing management of account plans, including those that:
      • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of building, running, and tracking account plans by client account teams (e.g. a platform for digital account plans, a digital account management tool)
      • Improve the visibility of the account planning process and status for the sales managers (e.g. sales management dashboard)

    Capabilities and skills

    • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Econometrics or Information Sciences such as business analytics or informatics.
    • Technical product management experience and track record of managing ideation to launch of software, data systems, enterprise solutions, mobile/ web apps, analytics capabilities or other products. You should be able to speak fluently to the technical aspects and architecture of any software you have worked with.
    • Experience with at least one, but preferably two, Salesforce implementations.
    • Strong team player, able to manage, collaborate and create alignment with people at all levels and with technical analysts (e.g. data scientists, software/data engineers) and with cross-functional/multi-office/region teams to achieve strategic goals
    • Inspirational Leader, with a track record of managing high-performing, service-oriented team members, motivating and developing colleagues above and below their own tenure
    • Proven executor with the ability to work independently and demonstrate value quickly in fast-paced environments.
    • Excellent communicator & influencer – can walk through approach with technical clients or explain tricky concepts to non-technical people
    • Strong interest in improving commercial outcomes across Bain
    • Must operate under the highest degree of accuracy, business ethics, and integrity
