  • Overview

    The ‘Senior Program Manager, Global Professional Development’ will join the core training team, with a strong initial focus on client capability building.  They will work closely with two Senior Directors and other leaders within the global training team.  The individual will serve as a thought leader in creating capability building content for external audiences, often partnering with experts across Bain’s Practice Areas to rapidly co-create and test materials.  They will also advise Bain case teams on client capability building requests, deliver content at priority clients, and help refine and execute the strategy for client capability building as we scale our offering.


    The role will be based in London and the salary on offer is competitive. Please note that this posting will close on March 9th, 2019.


    Lead and/or support client capability building events and programs

    • Act as an advisor to Client Heads, Office Heads and case teams asking for client capability building support. Example responsibilities include:
      • Share expertise on learning and development topics with Bain and client leadership teams
      • Identify and share best ‘off the shelf’ materials to help with client capability building proposals
      • Provide ‘rapid response’ support for members of Bain teams looking for related content
    • Partner with case teams on client development activities related to capability building, including leading relevant project client pitches or working directly with case teams where capability building is included in a wider Bain proposal
    • Lead client capability building programs – usually by collaborating with other members of the Client Capability Building team, case team leadership, and key clients. Example responsibilities include:
      • Provide advice to case teams on content design, serving as the ‘capability building / learning’ expert
      • Create bespoke modules or programs to serve new demand, customizing content to the client situation (e.g., curating examples specific to the client industry)
      • Lead “Train the Trainer” sessions and work with clients directly as necessary on design and delivery of training modules and programs
      • Deliver content at the client where there is demand for a global capability building expert or where specific topic expertise is required
      • Help manage event execution e.g., providing detailed guidelines on room configuration, creating take-away books and handouts


    Design, develop and maintain Client Capability Building assets

    • Work closely with practice area experts to design training modules and immersive exercises for priority Bain products that synthesize the most important learning outcomes for non-Bain audiences. This would include developing trainer notes with instructions /guidance for potential trainers.  Examples include:
      • Modules on various ‘Agile’ topics, delivered across the lifecycle of innovation work
      • A ‘Procurement University’, with a set of modules and exercises to support client teams
      • A ‘Results Delivery Office’ bootcamp to ramp-up Bain teams and clients, to kick-off a case
      • A set of ‘Zero Based Budgeting’ modules, including specific games and exercises
      • ‘Micro-battles’ modules to support kick-off work with clients
    • Tailor existing internal Bain training content to be high impact for external audiences - training flow, exercises, experiential learning, etc. (a strawman set of key topics already exists)
    • Develop capability building IP on high priority topics, including leading one or more reports to drive the work. Examples include:
      • Develop Bain’s point of view on capability building
      • Identify different L&D organisational models and when to use each
      • Determine how and when Bain should leverage digital training content
      • Identify how the most desired organisations to work for use capability building and training to attract, develop, and retain their people
    • Source external content as required and collaborate frequently with practice area teams


    Help drive overall execution of the Client Capability Building strategy

    • Work with senior members of the training team to refine and to implement the strategy for Client Capability Building globally
    • Develop internal and external marketing materials and liaise with Bain’s global Manager/Principal/ Partner network to drive demand for capability building projects
    • Lead periodic client capability building strategy reviews to ensure that Bain client training is driving maximum impact with our clients


    Work on priority internal Bain training programs and projects, based on demand and personal interest

    • While this role is initially focused on developing our client training offer, all the Senior Program Managers in the training team work across multiple programs and projects. We would see this person taking on internal Bain training projects as bandwidth allows and based on the individual’s level of interest


    Position Philosophy:

    A key success factor in this role is the application of skills developed in a client-facing role.  The Senior Program Manager must be able to provide leverage for the relevant senior team members and work directly (and credibly) with Partners, Principals and Managers from around the world.  The individual must be ready to step into a client-facing team and seamlessly provide not only subject matter expertise, but also line support in delivering training/learning-related casework.  This role resembles a traditional consulting role in terms of the skills required to develop strong content and delivery, application of problem solving skills, diversity of relationships/interactions, and its centrality to current firm priorities.

    • 5+ years’ experience in a top management consulting firm
    • Degree level educated
    • An interest in training, demonstrated by having been a trainer
    • Strong attention to (and interest in) detail and zero-defect work
    • Creative, yet execution-focused
    • Self-starter, able to work independently with limited direction
    • Effective global networker, able to work collaboratively with people from around the world
    • Experience managing others on project-based work (i.e., consulting staff and/or support staff)
    • Strong communication skills, English language fluency (both written and oral); interest and demonstrated ability in presenting and facilitation
    • Ability to work in an evolving environment to help realize the vision for the program; flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and program needs
    • Ability to effectively team globally, including flexibility in adjusting priorities and work hours/availability to meet customer needs; position requires a willingness to travel
    • High levels of discretion to appropriately manage highly confidential and sensitive data and information
    • Business fluency in Spanish is an asset, but it is not required
