Overview

The Social Impact marketing specialist plays a critical role in building awareness of Bain’s Social Impact efforts and driving engagement with employees, recruits and office Social Impact programs. This position is responsible for writing, curating and delivering all Social Impact communications, including the corporate website (Bain.com), microsite (socialimpactatbain.com), e-newsletters and social media platforms. This person will also help identify and evangelize best practices for local Social Impact programs, creating more opportunities for Bainies across the globe to engage in meaningful Social Impact work. All of this will be while working in close collaboration with the Social Impact practice team and several internal stakeholders – including Recruiting, PR, Global Marketing and Social Impact leaders across individual offices.

 

There are three primary objectives for the Social Impact marketing specialist:

  1. Increasing the awareness, inspiration and engagement of all Bainies with our Social Impact work
  2. Cultivating relationships with office Social Impact champions and supporting adoption of best practices in local programs
  3. Creating high-impact recruiting materials and campaigns

The Social Impact marketing specialist will report to the Practice Manager and will interact with the broader SI team, including the SI Practice Leaders, Knowledge Specialist and Knowledge Associate. He/she must exhibition a passion for Social Impact, particularly in our focus areas.

Responsibilities

  • Social Impact content mastery: Develops deep understanding of Bain’s Social Impact content/key messages/positioning and relevant Bain POV/IP as well as competitive and industry landscape
  • Writing and curation: Proactively identifies compelling global and local results stories. Develops, writes and edits SI-related communications material for internal channels (e.g., “year-in-review” report, firm-wide newsletters and OneBain videos) and external channels (e.g., webinars, SI microsite and alumni newsletters). Creates compelling communication campaigns across channels based on SI content, initiatives, and events. Works with Bain’s recruiting team to develop compelling content for recruits. Works with digital team to curate and maintain SI-related digital content as needed
  • Special projects: Manages and oversees the implementation of SI-related communication campaigns and projects, including stakeholder alignment, timeline, budget, and outcomes. Projects might include, for example, a website overhaul or the development of a new SI mobile app or portal. Assumes responsibility for the project lifecycle and interacts with internal specialists (e.g. TSG, digital, PR, alumni, recruiting) and/or external vendors
  • Local SI programs: Proactively identifies and codifies best practices from across global offices; seeks ways to customize to local context; develops relationships with local SI champions to lead/improve local SI programs. Example project over next 12 months would be developing/improving initial repository of local office best practices; Works with local SI champions to facilitate regular, effective office-level communications (e.g. through office list-serves, office meetings, interest groups, etc.); helps develop off-the-shelf materials to enable/support local office SI communications
  • Social Impact marketing strategy: Stays current with trends in SI marketing, digital marketing and social media and conducts benchmarking against competitor communications (websites, digital offerings, recruiting presentations, etc). Brings new ideas to improve engagement
  • Measurement & analytics: Takes a robust data-driven approach to understand drivers of marketing effectiveness, activity and usage patterns across channels; makes recommendations on overall marketing mix/approach grounded in analytical insights; tracks and publishes results; uses prototyping and human-centered design methodologies to collect feedback and inform specific designs/messages
  • Internal Executive communications: Helps lead development of executive-level presentations for major internal events and stakeholders (e.g. Worldwide Partner meetings, Global Operating Committee), with input from practice leadership
  • External marketing: Helps oversee commercialization of IP/POVs for the SI practice, including coordinating with editorial and design teams (writing and editing) and the digital marketing, PR and alumni teams (commercialization and launch)
  • Event management: Leads and/or liaises with local marketing teams around SI-related marketing events
  • Assumes other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience, of which at least 2 years must be in marketing, communications, writing, digital media or related field. Professional services experience preferred
  • Outstanding writer with a passion for jargon-free communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization; strong influencing and collaboration skills
  • Experience and proficiency creating high quality slides/presentations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams across multiple locations
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with limited direction
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the social sector, especially our priority focus areas
  • Experience planning and managing large projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and experience with digital marketing platforms and tools, including social media channels/tools (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc) preferred
